A Tarot Movie Called “Tarot”
There is a new movie out called “Tarot” which, according to some of the blurb I have seen, revolves around this premise:
“When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings — never use someone else’s deck — they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.”
The portrayal of tarot cards in movies often includes a mystical element that is far from reality. In reality, there is no universal “Sacred rule of Tarot reading” that all practitioners must follow. Tarot reading is a deeply personal and intuitive practice that varies greatly from person to person. Each reader brings their own unique interpretation and connection to the cards, making it a highly subjective experience.
In tarot, the cards themselves are simply tools for self-reflection and introspection. They can be used to gain insight into various aspects of life, but they are not meant to dictate a predetermined outcome or future. The power of tarot lies in the symbolism of the cards and the reader’s ability to interpret them in a way that resonates with their own experiences and beliefs.
While some practitioners may follow certain guidelines or traditions when reading tarot, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Each reader is free to develop their own methods and interpretations based on their intuition and connection to the cards. This flexibility is what makes tarot such a rich and diverse practice, with endless possibilities for exploration and growth.
So, the next time you see tarot cards in a movie, remember that the reality of tarot is much more nuanced and personal than what is often portrayed on screen. It is a tool for self-discovery and personal growth, not a set of rigid rules to be followed. Embrace the mystery and magic of tarot, and trust in your own intuition to guide you on your journey of self-exploration and empowerment.
Having said all that, do I recommend letting someone else use your cards? Or you using someone else’s cards? No, I don’t but that is a personal preference.
Cards can pick up negative energy and that can affect the accuracy of your readings. Obviously, as we read professionally, accuracy is of paramount importance to us.
But unlike in the movie, cards won’t come to life and hunt you down! So, treat the movie as a typical PG13 hokum horror film, but don’t take it seriously!
The movie is available for streaming and can be found on Amazon Prime: Tarot. Or, if you still prefer the old school approach then (at the time of writing) it is also available for pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD.
