5 Easy Ways to Begin Working with Crystals and Stones

If you want to begin working with crystals and stones but don’t know where to start, then don’t worry! It is not as difficult as you may think. Simply purchasing them brings them into your life and they will be working already whether you know it or not!

One of the first things that I learned about working with crystals and stones was the simple concept that everything vibrates, i.e. that every known thing in existence exhibits a frequency or groups of frequencies.

Since that made sense to me, it followed on from there that there were things that could affect those frequencies; for example, music or sound is a simple, easily observable thing that changes and affects humans, animals, and even plants.

Crystals and tumbled stones, I believe, can do the same thing. They can and do affect the vibrations of the people, places, and other things where they are used.

That was the sum total of my knowledge before I met Talisman and started working with him. He has a large collection of crystals and stones and his knowledge and affinity for them definitely impacted and increased my own.

There Are So Many Good Stones to Choose From!

As you may know, Psychic Revelation offers a wide variety of great tumbled stones which you can see here. That was not something we set out to do but Talisman was so disappointed by the size, quality, and price of stones that he bought online for his collection that he went out and sourced his own from wholesalers.

That was what seems like many years ago now and since then he has worked to locate and purchase some of the best, largest, and most reliable tumbled stones offered anywhere! In fact, we now offer more different types of stone than many dealers!

Just like all of you reading this, I’m a very busy person, and I realized very early on that if I wished to experiment with and benefit from the influences of these stones and crystals, I was going to have to find quick, easy, and simple ways to do so.

So, What Are Those Five Ways to Begin Working with Crystals and Stones?

Anyway, to cut a long story short here is a brief look at five of the quickest and easiest ways to begin working with crystals and stones.

1. Create a Rotating Display on Your Desk

For a variety of reasons, I have an unfortunate tendency to OVER acquire things. I am lucky in one way that my stone collection is very large, but in another not so lucky as I simply do not have the space to have them all out at once. If space was not an issue, I would literally have 70 or more different types of stone on my desk.

But because I don’t always need or want the same type of energy boost, I will periodically rotate a few different display pieces in and out. It’s an easy way of working with crystals that doesn’t require too much thought.

For example, if I am having trouble staving off other people’s negativity I might pull out some kyanite from our collection and add it to my display.

Because of the work I do, however, there is one stone that is a permanent fixture on my desk and that is amethyst. Amethyst is a general all-round healer and is excellent for distance healing.

Obviously, not everyone I work with needs spiritual or emotional healing, but many do. As an amethyst bonus I also believe that it pulls us all gently toward our highest and best selves.

2. Carry a Stone in Your Pocket or Purse

Many people carry what is often referred to as a worry stone or a touchstone, which they will rub or touch as a way to calm themselves and/or center their thoughts and energies.

Often people will do this because they are generally upset, or something specific has upset them. Either way they need to calm down. It is not unusual for people to use them when they just need to stop and think.

A lot of the time these are just river stones or a flat, smooth stone that they picked up somewhere. This is an ancient tradition that dates back thousands of years.

Having said that, there’s no reason why such a touchstone couldn’t or shouldn’t be a crystal or tumbled semi-precious stone if that is what someone wants to do, and I do.

So, very often I keep a piece of citrine in my purse. Citrine is protective of finances and some people believe it actually pulls in money. Will it bring in a fortune? No, probably not! But I do know from personal experience that it has brought me money I was not expecting.

At other times I will carry a flat piece of clear quartz when I know I will be grateful to have a “worry stone” to keep my hands busy with.

Of course, you don’t have to be worried in order to use a worry stone, if you see what I mean!

3. Wear Stones in Jewelry or Carry Them the Native American Way

I have worn stone jewelry for many years, and of course my husband (that would be Talisman for those who didn’t know!) has brilliant taste in gifting me stone jewelry as well. I am fortunate to now have many pieces that are both beautiful and energy-producing. Wearing jewelry is probably the simplest way to begin working with crystals.

Many of you are going to be aware that there is a tradition in some indigenous peoples of the Americas of creating and carrying a medicine bag. This bag often contains (among other things) stones that have properties to help balance or protect an individual.

I sometimes wear a very small medicine bag round my neck containing a few small pieces of some stones that I feel drawn to or that I think would be helpful in the circumstances that I am dealing with.

Chrysocolla is one of the stones that I have always felt drawn to, especially in my current work. It is said that chrysocolla helps us to stay mindful of the power our words and actions have on those around us and encourages compassion and strengthening of character.

I certainly want to be mindful, compassionate, and exhibit a strong moral character in my work! Many days I am really not feeling very energetic or well and on those days I might include a piece of carnelian or clear quartz for heightened physical energy.

4. Keep Stones in a Bag in Your Car

This was something I did more frequently when I drove on a much more regular basis. The pandemic and working from home full time has meant that I drive far, far, less frequently than I once did or had to.

Regardless, you might find some malachite and quartz in my car. Both are thought to be protective for travelers. And if I were going to, say, take a long trip with a car full of people, I would include several stones.

For a carful of people, I would include rose quartz (enhances loving/kind feelings), rhodochrosite (also loving and kindness), hematite (absorbing negativity) and any number of other stones which I thought might be useful for that particular group of people.

Note, though, that people don’t have to know the stones are there, nor touch them, for there to be an impact. Try it and see!

5. Create a Simple Crystal Grid

Crystal Grid - Working with Crystals

A healer that I know is very devoted to the use of sacred geometry and crystals. He has helped me to learn more about what grids are, how they work, as well as working with crystals in general.

He and many other folks create very complicated, beautiful grids some of which are very large. Personally, I create a grid from time to time that is about the size of a piece of copy paper.

Karen Frazier, a crystal grid expert and author on the subject, wrote that “Crystal grids can be created to amplify the power of the crystals, to protect or cleanse spaces, or to direct healing towards someone else.”

There are many, many, places where you can obtain a template for a grid, but a simple spiral of stones will also work provided they are chosen with care and placed with intention.

And in Conclusion…

Hopefully, these five quick and easy ways to begin working with crystals and stones will set you on the path of trying them out for yourself.
You can spend as much time or as little as you would like working with them. Or you can simply put a stone in your purse or pocket and forget it’s even there. The stone(s) won’t mind! They will continue to do their work regardless.
