When The Moon Appears in a Love Reading

When The Moon appears in a love reading it really is important to consider the symbolism it gives. Symbolism is always something to consider anyway when you’re reading or learning tarot, and the Moon is a card that typically has some very specific symbols on it. In this case, generally speaking, those symbols are animals.

So, What Are Those Symbols?

In the deck that is best known (the “Rider-Waite” deck) the card shows both a dog and a wolf. Obviously, they are similar animals, but the wolf is going to be stronger than the dog and of course the dog is domesticated, and the wolf is not.

Both are baying at the moon. And if a dog is strong and willful (trained or not) it can be very difficult or impossible to control him and the same being also true of the moon.

The Mystery of the Moon

The moon has been considered mysterious as long as humans have existed. It’s been scientifically proven that there is an increase in bipolar symptoms when the moon is full and also people don’t sleep as well.

But in Tarot the moon is about mystery, emotions, and often also a stunning lack of clarity. As a brief example, if it showed up as the final outcome of a reading about romance, the very last thing that should be divined is that one or other within the relationship is indifferent about the situation.

There is always an emotional component when the Moon appears.

So, What About the Moon in Love Readings?

Often when this card shows up in a love reading, one or both partners are frustrated because they feel that the relationship is at a standstill. Also, they often feel as though their partner doesn’t really care about them.

Mistakes That Get Made with the Moon

That feeling of a partner not caring is almost without exception a mistake when the Moon appears. In the interpretation that I have developed over the years, I’ve come to see the Moon in a love reading as meaning that there’s almost too much of an emotional component in their mind, and that at least one of the partners needs to take the time and space to figure that out.

The moon, importantly, actually has a measurable and finite influence on our bodies (we’re about 70% water if memory serves) and thus we are affected by the moon’s pull just like the tides in the oceans. It is also settled scientific fact that full moons affect us. For example, it’s certain that we don’t sleep as much during full moons as we do at other times of the month.

In Conclusion When the Moon Appears in Love Readings

The importance of the pull that the moon exerts translates to a pulling of our emotions as well. When interpreting the Moon in love readings, there is essentially a need for one or more of the people involved to take the relationship seriously.

At various times we may feel like throwing our hands up and walking away but the Moon sends a very clear message that the relationship is worth the effort to get to the bottom of the situation. We have emotional reactions for a reason, and the Moon says, “Don’t shy away from them” and “Know that you are capable of dealing with the problems.”
