The Meaning of The Chariot

The Chariot and Its Meanings

We already have meanings for “The Chariot” on Psychic Revelation of course, but those are meant as guidance to get you going.

Tarot cards, like life, are shades of grey rather than black and white, so I am taking a look at some of those grey shades that The Chariot brings.

Is The Chariot a Positive or a Negative Card?

The Chariot is a card that most seasoned readers see as a positive omen. However, people who don’t like change don’t tend to see it that way. Unfortunately, that tends to be a significant number of people.

When change is on the cards it is always wise to remember that it will eventually be change for the better even though it may not seem so at the time. Hindsight, of course, is 20/20.

The Chariot as a Warning Card

The Chariot can also be a predictor that the person the reading is for has not paid attention to previous warnings that things needed to be different than they are.

Accordingly, life and spirit are checking in to force a move in a different direction. And forced moves are the worst ones of all for most of us.

Forced Change or Not You Still Have Choices

Nearly everyone prefers to have choices to make, rather than to be swept along by outside forces over which they have no control. Even when you are being swept along by forces outside your control you still have choices you can make.

Those choices may not change what’s happening, but they can change how you deal with it.

Discomfort with change happens to us all at various times, and yet it is a constant in life and the natural world. All you have to do is to look out the window and you’ll see that is a universal truth.

Of course, that doesn’t make change easy to deal with, but sometimes it helps to see the futility of what you might be raging against or are anxious about.

If you abhor the changes implicit in getting older remember that COVID took more than 600,000 plus people in the USA alone who were alive in February 2020 who are no longer with us. Those people by and large would not have quibbled at a few more years if they had the option. And concern about “aging” would be very low on their list.

The Depiction of The Chariot

In various decks, the Chariot is depicted with two animals pulling it. Often these are shown as one dark and one light colored animal. This is thought to signify the duality of life; the good with the bad, the inside and outside, the pain and the pleasure.

So much is duality in our existences. It is inescapable. Or as Gibran poetically put it: “Your joy is your sorrow unmasked….”

Light and Dark – The Two Sides of The Chariot

On a more esoteric level, many tarot experts suggest that The Chariot is a reminder that we all have a “shadow” side inside of us, and that until we recognize that fact and accept it we cannot possibly be living a completely full, integrated, moral life. Pretending that there is no darkness doesn’t make the sun come up.

Accept your shadow side and it brings you power. So the Chariot says, “Things are moving, don’t be afraid to take the bad with the good!”
