Is There a Difference Between Oracle and Tarot Cards?
Yes, and no! People often ask what the difference is between tarot cards and oracle cards and the short answer is that tarot cards can answer questions about life, the universe, and everything, whereas many oracle decks, for the most part, simply offer messages that may be pertinent but do not necessarily answer a querent’s question.
Like tarot, oracle decks are thought to be inspired by spirit.
Oracle Decks That Are in the Middle
As an example of decks that can answer questions to a degree take Yasmin Boland’s deck “Moonology.”
It is generally considered to be one of the more inspired oracle decks out there. It can be used to answer questions but more often than not users draw a card for a “message for the day.” Even people who do not generally read tarot cards like a message in this way.
This is not the only deck that can do this, but it is one of the better-known ones. Simply drawing a card as the message for the day is perfectly okay, by the way.
Oracle Decks That Can Answer Questions

There are a few oracle decks that can and do answer questions. Even quite complex ones. We use “The Ancient Egyptian Oracle – The Cards of Ra-Maat” by Norman Plaskett.
We use it for client readings and also for ourselves. Time and again the information it provides is deep, thought-provoking, and accurate.
Perhaps it goes without saying, but there is a spiritual element to this oracle deck as well.
This deck is out of print now and is hard to come by and usually, even if you can find it, the deck will be used.
It is worth looking for even though the spreads and interpretations are very complex.
So, Tarot vs. Oracle – Which Should You Use?
The bottom line is that we all must trust our “guts” and use the tools that we feel are most useful and most drawn to. Some people don’t feel that they mesh at all with oracle cards, some only use oracle cards, some only use tarot, and some use both.
Your mileage may vary but I suggest trying several oracles before you make your decision. Amazon does, of course, offer many to choose from.
One Last Thing to Bear in Mind
One major aspect to bear in mind is that unlike tarot you are not likely to find much interpretation help online. You would have to stick with the book’s definitions, which are unfortunately are usually very short.
Again, there are exceptions like the Egyptian Oracle mentioned previously. Its book is actually very good and has 128 pages to help you. However, as I said it is out of print and prices can be high.
Psychic Revelation does offer Ancient Egyptian Oracle readings among other specialist readings.
